WIP Wednesday 31st August 2011

Good morning.  I have failed to post a WiP Wednesday since the start of the summer holidays!!!  Still crafting in the evenings but the kids have discovered youtube, moshi monsters and bin weevils over the holidays so I havent been able to get on the computer very often!

Getting excited now as Autumn is really in the air now despite it still being August!  The trees are starting to turn and the evenings are getting chilly.  Lit the fire last night which was lovely.  I love all seasons but love the time of seasonal change the most.  It is also the time of year to start thinking about Christmas gifts and what to make everyone :-)

Onto my WIP.....  I need your advice.  I'm making a crochet cardi for myself from a King Cole pattern.  The bottom section is made from square motifs that are joined together.  The joining edges are created from a chain stitch row so I am not sure how to join one motif to another.  Normally with crochet I've joined firm edges together either with single crochet, whipstitch or mattress stitch.  Not sure which joining stitch to use and whether to insert the needle into the V's of the chain or go under the round and into the arches that it created on top of the previous round.  Hope I am making some sense!!!  The pattern just says join motifs in a row.

Head over to Tami's Amis blog for this weeks crafting WIP's

  1. I'm no help at all on the pattern, but it looks really pretty ;) Love the blue yarn, such a fab colour

  2. Can't help with the crochet as I am never too sure how to do it (usually poke the hook in the wrong place), but the colour and your motifs are lovely

  3. Sorry to add in that I too am not really good with crochet, but I love the blue and it will look gorgeous when it's done. Let us know what you decide after some real crocheters out there help you out!

  4. I think it's personal preference whether you go around the chain itself or into the V. I suggest trying it both ways and seeing which way you like the look of the most. For something like this, I'd probably try to use the V, but I've gotten lazy with the afghan I'm making and I just go around the chains.

  5. That's gorgeous!!!! Do you know if the pattern can be found online? I'd love to attempt something like that, although I can't be of help with your question!

I'm totally with you on the Autumnal nip - I drove back from Wales today and the trees were definitely yellowing and the evenings there have been pretty chilly. Thank goodness for all the yarny goodness to get us through it!

  6. Gosh I don't know a thing about joining chain stitch rows, so I'm no help. But I'll chime in with the others about how gorgeous that blue yarn is!

  8. OK, first, I'm beyond jealous of your burgeoning autumn!! It's still in the mid to high nineties here and likely will stay that way through September. (WAAAH!)

I've not really followed any instructions for joining motifs but being that I'm staunchly opposed to hand-sewing anything, I crochet stuff together whenever I can get away with it. Unless there's a good reason you can't crochet these motifs together (other than the instructions telling you to do otherwise), that's exactly what I would do -- either slip stitch them together or sc them together. But I'm obviously a rebel. ;)
Good luck -- I hope whatever you choose works well!!

  9. I crochet, but I've never done anything like that, so I can't really give you any advice. The pattern and what you've done so far looks beautiful though.

  10. I'd really need to see the pattern to offer any real advice. I would probably whip stitch them together.

I really like the color you picked. It should be lovely when finished.

  11. Hm I would have been partial to joining the motifs as I went, becuase I think that would give yout he best drape, otherwise you might get a bit of a stiff join.

  12. I have to agree with omlair. It looks pretty lacy so join as you go would make the most drape-y bottom. It is a great looking pattern.
